<< Aha! I finally get to post a pop culture Shakespeare reference before anyone else does. Bob Dylan has a new CD, Love and Theft. The sixth song, "Floater (Too Much To Ask)" has a stanza in which Romeo and Juliet are arguing. I don't quite get the whole lyrics, but according to Romeo, Juliet is not as pretty as she used to be. Juliet tells Romeo to shove off.

 Jack Heller >>

The exact lyric is:

Romeo, he said to Juliet, "You got a poor complexion;
It don't even give an appearance of a youthful touch."
Juliet said back to Romeo, "Why don't you just shove off
If it bothers you so much."

These are the lyrics from "Floater" which refer to R&J:

Romeo, he said to Juliet, you got a poor complexion
 It don't give your appearance a very youthful touch
 Juliet said back to Romeo,
 why don't you just shove off,
 if it bothers you so much

AND, from another song on the album, "Po' Boy," an Othello reference:

 Othello told Desdemona "I'm cold, cover me with a blanket"
 "By the way, what happened to that poisoned wine?"
 She said "I gave it to you, you drank it"
 Po' boy, layin' 'em straight
 Pickin' up the cherries fallin' off the plate

This new album is very good. If anyone is interested, I once embarrassed myself in a Shakespeare course by describing the ways in which Dylan may be the best candidate for a "20th century equivalent to Shakespeare." But only upon request...
